Sourcing and applying for grant funding
Grants are available from the European Union, national and local government as well as NGOs and charities. You won’t be asked to repay a grant or pay interest on it nor to give away shares in your company in exchange for a grant. It can however take a long time from applying for a grant to you getting the money in your bank.
Typically grants are awarded for a specific purpose or project, for example, to contribute towards the cost of equipment or employment. Very often a grant will be awarded for a percentage of the total project costs and you will be expected to match the funds awarded. Grants will usually be awarded for a planned project rather than ones that are underway. The competition for grant funding can be fierce with many applications for a limited pot of money.
We have experience in advising applicants on the application process and the on-going reporting requirements of some grant-paying bodies.
Below are some of the areas where grant funding may be available:
- regional development/ growth funding
- environmental/ energy efficiency awards
- research and development
- employment/ job creation
- training and education
- rural business
